Schroders history in the world
Schroders financial group started its history in 1804, in England, as a small commercial bank. In over two centuries, it became one of the largest listed companies at the London Stock Exchange, with a market share of approximately U$ 5.21 billion (Reference to September, 2011).
Third parties’ asset management started in 1922 and currently the subsidiary that handles that activity, Schroder Investment Management Limited (SIM), is one of the largest and most acknowledged ones in the world. The group also operates in private banking, by means of Schroder & Co., and in venture capital, by means of Schroder Ventures.
Over 50 years ago, the company started its corporate investors’ asset management activity in the United Kingdom, and currently it is the second largest pension funds asset manager and the largest unit trust group manager (mutual funds) and charity assets manager.
In 1960, it started the global office network. Currently, there are 32 of them spread in countries in Europe, the Americas and Asia, in which over 2.6 thousand people work.
Its focus is on long-term investment management, geared towards publicly held companies' shares and based on thorough and permanent analyses of companies and economic realities in several countries.
Exclusively dedicated to asset management, which reach a total global amount higher than US$ 283.9 billion (Reference to September, 2011), SIM operates independently, avoiding possible conflicts of interest between companies and the market, aligning its objectives with its clients' objectives.
In 2000, the group sold the Investment Bank and in 2006, it acquired the New Finance Capital, an acknowledged hedge funds company. The Schroder family controls the group and an important equity interest, which favors stable and consistent management of its subsidiaries and keeps the company's international prestige.
