Background
Faithful to the principle of getting closer to developing markets and potential clients, Schroder Investment Management Limited (SIM) started to invest in Latin America in 1990, with the opening of Schroders Latin American Fund – a fund that already comprised the shares of Brazilian companies in its portfolio.
In 1994, SIM opened its first research office for investments in Brazil, and in the following year, it started a joint venture with Argentinean Mildesa Bank.
São Paulo analysts started to take part in fund management in Latin America in 1996 and, in 1997, the Brazilian office was transformed in a resource management center, and it became responsible for local management of resources of foreign institutional investors' investments in Brazilian shares.
As of 1998, already structured and with a history of consistent performance in funds geared towards foreign clients, Schroders Brazil office was granted authorization to offer its services to Brazilian investors as well.
In the following year, it launched its first share fund, Schroder Brazil FIA and, a bit later, the company stood out as one of the largest resource managers in variable income in Brazil.
In 2005, Schroders Brazil decided to leap ahead to be consolidated in the country and launched the Multi Strategy line of multi-market funds, giving more investment solution options to its Brazilian clients. In the following year, the company opened its first principal protected fund in Brazil and in July 2007, it launched its Long & Short multi-market fund in Brazilian shares and its first balanced fund for open social security.
Currently, Schroders Brazil manages over U$ 1.7 billion * of its over 114*, adding up corporate investors and distributors all over the country.
